It's a Man's World...

Really?

THis brief article is totally in response to what another young lady wrote about how we women have to be perfect these days and do everything and that our happinness is only at a 70%, and is on the decline.

This is of course because many still have this arhchaic attitude that "It's a Man's World" I just heard my co-worker utter this distasteful word and I have to say it took all of my energy to tell her that she pushed back the women's movement by 20 years.  I have to say that we women need to forge our own path of happiness and don't have to do it the same way as men.

While I do love an episode of "Mad Men"  it certainly displays sexism and the pre sexual revolution days at its finest.  Since then, we women have been able to do it all and have it all.  But nowadays I'm asking at what cost, so our men can be lazy and feel that they don't have to try as hard.  I' can't tell you all how many times I have seen the role reversal so severe that our women are now supoorting our men and yet the men still take advantage and end up leaving the women or cheating on her.

It's disgraceful and no wonder that we women are so un-happy, not only do we have to work all day, but then have to go home tend to the children, cook dinner and " please" our husbands.  Now, I may only be 25 and not married and don't have kids yet, but I see this as a dangerous pattern and I will de damned if I plan to repeat this.

Just an after-thought to this article I just read and a theme that I ahve beens eeing amoungst lots of women and the pressue to be so dang perfect while our men assume no responsibilities.

Agree and disagreements are definitely welcome :)

Virgin's Guide to Everything

I knew the article would get everyone's attention,  I figured I had to comment on this book that I am reading by letting you all know how entertaining and helpful it is.  It's basically about giving advice to everyting from how to throw a dinner party, to how to pick a good restaurant, to how to find healthier food as well as how to eat good sushi, etc..

It really is ahelpful book for women of all ages, as it tells you what's a good way to handle all situations and despite the title, it really has nothing to do with someone's virginity but rather on helping one out to become an all around better person.

It's witty tips and suggestions such as " get drunk with the aroma and dizzying experience of waiters, good food and elegance"  regarding treating yourself to a nice restaurant every once in awhile.  It'sg ood fun and thus far I highly recommend it partyly because it's at the dating portion and I could use all of the help I can get in that department.

We'll keep this blog going within the next few days and let everyone know.... Check out this book!!

Angelina : Friend or Foe

Angelina Jolie: the name itself is probably synonymous to all of you with that of glamour, beauty, controversy of sorts and most recently, having kids.  But, many of you and myself included that no matter what you feel about her, you have some kind of opinion on her whether you think she's a beautfiul creature one that is a do-gooder and even somewhat of a saint or  some of you think of her as a husband stealing/ sexual freak that has things come way too easy for her.

I had to use that last line because I sometimes feel that way, yet I can't help but find myself not only envying her but also looking up to her as sorts. This topic of the power and the fascination the public has with Angelina Jolie is in response to an article I read in Marie Claire that praises Ms. Jolie for not only having it all but also doing things her way.  The author is also quick to point out that if this was a man we would hardly even touch on the fact that he stole a woman away from her them husband and he wouldn't be criticized but rather praised for it.

With that said, I have to agree that the fact that a woman no matter, that she's a famous celebrity, has taken control of things around her and taken what she feels its hers whehter it be a man in a committed relationship.  I have to say that I myself would love to have it all much like Angelina when I say all I mean things like : good looks, a great career, finanacial stability, a great husband, kids, etc.  I think most of us can also agree that while Angelina has the pick of the litter in Brad Pitt, but she doesnt need him finanacially, socially or anything of that nature.  It's simply the fact that she has him and has started a somewhat nuclear family with him and claimed him as hers in such a way that a man has done in the past that I hate to admit, I find admirable.

I have always been a beliver that there are factors in ones life that one can't control but I also feel that going after what you want and furthering oneself in any way possible is the way to get ahead. I however, don't agree with the fact that you need to get what you want at the expense of others. No that I'm saying thats what Angelina did because no one forced Brad Pitt to fall for her, he just did.  Though I know I will have some of you that disagree with me.

While snagging a very studly and financially sound man is admirable in itself, I also find her love affair with charity and wanting to make a difference another thing that sets her apart from the rest of the self-absorbed actors out there.  The fact that she doesnt just write put a check to her favorite charity and never even see what its going towards, the fact that she travels to dangerous places such as war torn Afghanistan and actually sit down and talk with the people and try to get to know them on a personal level is such a noble thing.  She is someone that is trying to use her celebrity towards a good cause and its shows that she isn't just obsessed with her image and all of the superficiality that is in Hollywood.

So, I'm sure you are all wondering how I am going to tie this article to the title and this is where I plan to do it.  We as women tend to view  women like Angelina who seem to have it all as the enemy and that she sets unattainable standards for the rest of us, when it's quite the opposite.  I say we embrace our inner Angelina's and aim to have it all whether it be changing your hair color or style, signing up and acutally engaging in physical activity, taking up a new hobby, voluntering or finally asking that guy out, you know the one that you have been eyeing at the bus stop every morning.  Go embrace that side of you and be your own version of Angelina Jolie as you too can have it all if you just imagine it possible!!

Douche-Bag-itis On the Rise

This is my first article here on PNN and I honestly thought it would be some insighful fashion advice or tips on how to be a recessionista.  I do plan to make my next one some article realting to my passion for fashion and maybe something a litte more serious than this one but I figured what the hey, its myfirst one might as well address a topic that has my concern, for the time being.  This blog is  about a distrubing trend I have noticed amoung many of the guys that not only I meet, but that my friends and loved ones have encountered and that many of us, as the public have seen on many reality T.V. shows.  Douche-Bag-Itis!!!!!! :(

This trend as my title puts it is what I like to call Douche-Bag itis and rising epidemic that it has become with quite a few men between the ages of 18-40.  I see them in bars, clubs, restaurants out on the streets and far worse on the ever classy reality T.V.  One reality T.V. show that has addressed this problem is the MTV show "Tool Academy" in which somewhere between 10-12 douche-bags are given an ultimatum by their already fed-up and too patient girlfriends.

This then brought me to this article of why it is that so many men or boys rather think that by being un-classy, disrespectful, basically de-meaning towards women that we will flock to them.  I mean, where have all the real men gone, WTF!!!  How is a fun-loving yet decent, nice and hardworking girl supposed to meet a guy of equal or even a slightly higher caliber than herself with all these douche-bags running about?

The worse part is that when these guys are seen on T.V. and they are proud of their disrespectful way of acting and if any female calls them out on it, they are considered "bitches" and seen as some sort of shrew.  Now you may get the occasional bad seed of a female ( aka New York in "I love New York or Daisy in "Daisy of Love") that is not only ok with this type of behavior but almost asks for it by presenting theirselves in a "slutty" fashion. But, for the rest of us self respecting females, we are told by society that this is an okay way for males to treat femaes and if we call them out on it, we are reprimanded.  It's a scary epidemic and its only growing as young men think that this way is okay to act towards women and just everyone in general.

As a young female in my twenties I have to say that the pickings are slim if this does continue and I just hope that this epidemic gets weeded out, before its too late...

Since, this is my first posting I welcome comments, whether you agree or disagree with me.  How boring would it be if we all had the same opinion :)
